Mai Amer is a feminist researcher in the field of cultural studies. She obtained her MA in 2014 with a dissertation on social language patterns in contemporary popular songs (mahraganat) and her PhD in 2022 with a thesis on a gendered analysis of contemporary song genres in Egypt.

She graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Department of Media, Mansoura University in 2008, obtained a diploma in art criticism at the Academy of Arts in 2009, and then applied to complete her postgraduate studies at the Department of Media and Culture, Faculty of Higher Studies for Childhood, Ain Shams University.

She teaches urban anthropology at the Faculty of Engineering at the French University of Egypt.
