Ansar Jasim

Political scientist and Food Sovereignty Activist

Ansar Jasim is a political scientist and activist for social justice with a German-Iraqi background. Her work focuses on civil society, food sovereignty, and solidarities from below, particularly in Syria and Iraq.

Since 2012, she has been active with the Syrian-German initiative “Adopt a Revolution,” supporting grassroots activists across Syria. In 2014, she began working on internationalist solidarity campaigns against hunger sieges and in support of food sovereignty movements. Her research and advocacy have focused on how communities resist the weaponization of hunger through urban gardening and local seed saving initiatives.

She has been involved in cross-regional organizing and networking of farmers and activists defending biodiversity and agroecological practices in the face of systemic environmental degradation and extractivism.
