Webinar Sudan's Revolution:  What Comes Next?

Monday 10 January at 5pm Khartoum time.

The discussion will be in Arabic with English interpretation available on Zoom only.

Following the 25 October military coup in Sudan, the Sudanese people mobilized swiftly and on a massive scale to oppose the military’s actions. Many of Sudan’s international partners also raised the pressure on the military “to restore the civilian-led transitional government” and urged parties to engage in dialogue with the aim of restoring the country’s democratic transition. Ultimately, Sudan's military announced a deal on 21 November to reinstate Abdalla Hamdok as prime minister. Hamdok’s deal with the military angered a large protest movement that has adopted the slogan "No partnership, no negotiation, no compromise."

This webinar will aim to shed light on the following points:

  • Demands from the protest movement;
  • Possible pathways to return to the transition and the role of security apparatus in this; and
  • The role of the international community in supporting a transition.
