Shaimaa Magued

Associate Professor at Cairo University

Shaimaa Magued is a scholar in International Relations of the Middle East, specialized in Turkish-Arab Relations, Turkish foreign policy, and transnational advocacy, widely published in renowned academic journals with a teaching and research experience in reputable universities and research centers.

She is currently an Ernest Mach Research Fellow at the Austrian Institute for International Affairs in Vienna and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. She is a former Visiting Assistant Professor at the Future University in Egypt, Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado (2018-2019), Adjunct Assistant Professor at the American university in Cairo (2016-2017), Carnegie fellow at Hubert H. Humphrey School of Global Affairs, the University of Minnesota (Fall 2015).

Worked as a Research Fellow (2012-2013) at the Center of Migrations and Refugees Studies, the American University of Cairo and an Associate Researcher (2010, 2007, 2006) at the French Institute of Anatolian Studies (IFEA) in Istanbul, the Center of Economic and Legal Studies and Documentation in Cairo, and the Department of National Security in the Arab League in Cairo.

Received a PhD degree (2012) in International Relations, Political Science, Université Aix-Marseille III (SciencesPo Aix, France), an MPPA (Master of Public policy and Administration in 2012) from the American University in Cairo, a master degree (2009) in International Relations, Political Science from L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, and a BA (2008) from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.

Awarded Carnegie short-term research Fellowship (2019 and 2015), the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship (2018-2019), the Ford Foundation scholarship (2010) Building Next Scholars’ Generation, the Turkish Government Scholarship (2010), and the French Government Scholarship (2009) for graduate studies.
