
Negasi Solomon Gebru
Dr. Negasi Solomon Gebru is a distinguished Environmental Scientist with over 14 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy analysis. He holds a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Ghana, where his research focused on the climate change mitigation potential of natural forests in Ethiopia. He currently serves as Lead Researcher at the Tigray Institute of Policy Studies (TIPS), guiding environmental policy research and strategy development. He is also an Assistant Professor at Mekelle University, one of Ethiopia’s leading academic institutions, where he mentors MSc and PhD students in environmental science. Dr. Negasi’s expertise covers environmental sustainability, climate change, agroforestry, forest conservation, land degradation, ecosystem services, and conflict-driven environmental impacts. His work is particularly focused on the semi-arid and dryland regions of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. He has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals and is noted for his research on conflict-related environmental destruction, including the impacts of the 2020 Tigray war.
He has led multiple research and consultancy projects and participates in global scientific forums, including conferences in Ghana, South Africa, and India. A regular reviewer for top-tier journals, Dr. Negasi is widely recognized for his interdisciplinary approach and dedication to solving real-world environmental challenges.
