Maya Choueiri

Senior Advisor to Executive Director at the IMF

Maya Choueiri is Senior Advisor to the Executive Director representing Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, the Maldives, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen at the IMF Executive Board since 2008. Before holding this position, she was advisor to the Executive Director since 2004. From 1994 to 2001, she held various positions at the Central Bank of Lebanon, notably at the Financial Assets Department, and most recently as Advisor to the First Vice-Governor. She was also Advisor to the Minister of Oil and the Minister of Energy and Water in Lebanon where she managed a World Bank project aimed at restructuring and privatizing the electricity sector. Maya Choueiri is a Lebanese national. She earned Bachelor degrees in economics from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis and Institute of Political Studies of Paris, a Master Master’s degree from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. in economics from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris.
