2025Webinar Participatory Approaches to Conflict, Climate Change, and Environment Case Studies from the Levant
2025
The discussion will be held in both Arabic and English, with interpretation available on Zoom only.
You can register to attend by following this link. You will receive a Zoom confirmation email should your registration be successful. Alternatively, you can watch the event live here on our Facebook page.
This event, organized under the Arab Reform Initiative’s Environmental Politics Program in partnership with Robert Bosch Stiftung, brings together contributors from a newly co-published research dossier. Focusing on Syria, Palestine, and Iraq, the authors will present their findings on how inclusive, bottom-up approaches can address the intersection of environmental degradation and conflict in the Middle East and North Africa.
Why Attend?
- Gain Fresh Perspectives Learn how marginalized communities—such as refugees, ethno-religious minorities, and low-income groups—serve as pivotal actors in shaping environmental policies and advancing equitable governance in conflict-affected settings.
- Explore Key Questions
- How and when do participatory approaches emerge to bridge gaps in traditional environmental governance, especially in the MENA region
- What ethical and methodological considerations guide participatory research and action in contexts of conflict and environmental breakdown, and how can they adapt to diverse socio political realities?
- Which bottom-up perspectives on the climate-conflict nexus offer deeper insights into environmental insecurity and its human security implications for the Levant?
- Hear Expert Findings Our speakers will examine how the region’s changing political landscape—particularly in Syria and Palestine—affects efforts to include those most impacted by conflict-induced environmental harm in decision-making processes.
We encourage you to read the dossier ahead of the webinar, join the conversation, and engage with scholars, practitioners, and civil society leaders at the forefront of inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and environmental research.
