Webinar Lebanon at Glasgow COP26:   Perspectives from Within

Wednesday 17 November at 4 pm Beirut time.

The event will be in Arabic.

Overview:

This year’s UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) has been labelled as a “pivotal moment in the fight against climate change.” Despite its political, governance, and economic crisis, Lebanon cannot afford to ignore the challenge of climate change which will likely amplify the impact of the country’s multiple crises. Prime Minister Najib Mikati noted in his COP26 speech that adaptation and mitigation are key to Lebanon’s development plan while the Lebanese Minister of Environment noted that action on climate change must be at the heart of Lebanon’s recovery from the financial crisis.

Beyond this rhetoric, is Lebanon preparing to mitigate the impact of climate change and implement the commitments that it signed up to? This webinar’s speakers will offer their perspectives on Lebanon’s position at COP26 by answering questions such as:

  • What is the Ministry of Environment’s strategy in response to COP26 decisions?
  • How will Lebanon implement adaptation and mitigation techniques in its recovery efforts?
  • What are the demands of civil society groups and how do they mobilize in the current Lebanese context?
