The Just Transition Green Bridge project enters a new phase. Initially active in Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt, and Morocco, it now expands to five additional countries: Algeria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and Yemen, in collaboration with committed local partners and with the generous support of the Kingdom of Sweden via its Regional Development Cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa (Headquartered in the Swedish Embassy in Amman)

This expansion strengthens regional knowledge exchange and supports a growing alliance of civil society organizations, youth groups, researchers, and communities working toward a more just and sustainable environmental transition across the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region.

Project Objectives

The project aims to address environmental challenges not in isolation, but as part of broader structural issues in the region: social inequalities, poor governance, and limited political inclusion.

  • Empower civil society organizations (CSOs) to engage meaningfully in environmental policy at the national, regional, and international levels.
  • Promote inclusive environmental governance, where the voices of youth, women, and marginalized communities are heard and reflected in decisions.
  • Foster regional dialogue and cooperation by connecting experiences and advocacy strategies across countries.
  • Build a collective regional agenda focused on food sovereignty, energy transition, and water access and justice.
  • Support evidence-based policy-making through collaborative research, consultation, and participatory policy design.

Youth Engagement and Advocacy

In every country, the initiative places a strong emphasis on:

  • Capacity building for youth-led organizations to monitor and influence climate policies.
  • Training in environmental advocacy, including media outreach, policy brief writing, and campaign strategy.
  • Support for youth participation in international forums, such as the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP), through tailored workshops and coaching.
  • Youth consultations and leadership in national dialogues, ensuring that young voices shape the future of environmental justice in the region.
