Position Title: Translation Coordinator

Reporting to: Director of Publications

Location: Remote

Contract Type: Consultancy/Part-time


Position Overview:

The Translation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the entire translation process from initial request to final delivery (from/to English and Arabic and in some cases from/to French). This includes using different translation online tools as well as coordinating with translators, proofreaders and editors to ensure high-quality translations are delivered on time and within budget.

This is a part-time position with an expectation of around 10 hours per week (ideally with some availability Monday to Friday). It would be ideal for a graduate student with strong language skills and a keen eye for detail or someone wanting to work from home with flexible hours.


Organization Overview

The Arab Reform Initiative is a leading independent think tank that promotes a home-grown agenda for democratic governance as well as social and environmental justice in Arab countries. ARI conducts policy analysis and innovative field research, combines scholarly work and advocacy, and acts as a policy platform for emerging voices from the region.

ARI partners with leading local and regional research centers and media outlets, including for the development of new tools for disseminating research and recommendations (from videos to infographics), and for publication along different networks and channels. In addition, ARI uses diverse tools, venues, and strategies to reach a broad audience, built around targeted stakeholder segmentation.




  • Oversee translation of written outputs from initiation to completion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for translation, editing, and proofreading requests.
  • In coordination with the Publications Director, assign translation, copy-editing, and proofreading tasks to appropriate team members and ensure follow-up and timely delivery.

Quality Control and Process Improvement:

  • Ensure consistency of the formatting, referencing and footnotes with the original document.
  • Handle feedback and revisions as needed.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and propose and implement solutions.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in translation.

Resources, documentation, and reporting:

  • Maintain a database of copy-editors and editors.
  • In collaboration with program teams, keep a list of special translation terms to be double-checked in certain specific translations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience in project coordination/management, preferably with experience in managing publications or translations.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic and English. Knowledge of French will be an asset.
