On 16-17 March 2015, ARI held a two-day training workshop on policy brief writing skills in Beirut for 16 young researchers and civil society activists. The aim of the training workshop was to provide a new generation of scholars and future civil society leaders the tools to present their policy ideas in a concise, coherent, and convincing fashion.
Marina Ottaway (Wilson Center) led the training. Trainees included PhD and Masters students, university lecturers, as well as human rights and political activists from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Tunisia.
Seven of the trainees are current or former recipients of support through ARI’s Arab Research Support Program (ARSP).
In order to widen access to tools for presenting policy options, ARI will publish in 2015 an electronic guide to policy brief writing in Arabic and English.
The workshop was made possible with support from the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
